Massachusetts Historical Society Council and officer records related to the effort on behalf of the MHS to bring the frigate Constitution from the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Kittery, Maine to the Charlestown Naval Yard in 1898. Includes letters from various historical societies in Massachusetts, Illinois, Ohio, and Maryland applauding the effort and lending support, 1897; and correspondence between Charles Francis Adams and Henry Cabot Lodge, William H. Moody, and others regarding financial support for restoration of the Constitution, 1903-06. Also includes a letter from the Save Old Ironsides Fund addressed to MHS librarian Julius H. Tuttle regarding fundraising efforts; and circular letters, ephemera, clippings, and other printed material, 1896-1925, including a broadside printed, ca. 1898, regarding a petition to Congress to save the Constitution.
